Common Questions (FAQ)

Common Questions (FAQ)

There are more than a few questions regarding hypnosis today and I hope to answer some of the more frequently asked questions on this page. If you don't see your question here please feel free to let me know via email and if it is indeed a "FAQ" I will add it to the ones listed here.

How can this be done over the Internet?
Well I don't use spinning disks or swing a watch. While I prefer to do most of our sessions over the telephone, there are times when that is not possible, so I do them right over the net. I simply use a voice chat program such as Microsoft's "Windows Live Messenger", or Skype , since its all in the timbre of my voice which helps the client by lulling them toward that state of allowing themselves to participate with the suggestions made for relaxation achievement!
How long have you been doing this on the net?
Online Hypnotherapy became the first actual "live" Internet Practice in 1995.
What's your rate of success?
No therapist will ever bat a thousand… yet the results achieved by those I've worked with, exceeded even the harshest skeptics expectations!
What is the difference between a hypnotist and a hypnotherapist?
The amount & depth of training: a hypnotist is simply a behavioural modification therapist, whereas a certified clinical hypnotherapist is fully trained in every aspect and spectrum of today's state-of-the-art treatment techniques.
Can you really help me to quit smoking?
If you really WANT to stop then yes, I can.
Are you sure you can put me under?
I do not put anyone "under", each client puts themselves under through their willingness to participate. Therefore, anyone can go under, just as anyone can resist going under. It just depends, again, on your willingness to co-operate (follow the suggestions which lead you into a wonderful state of total relaxation!)
Won't I be under someone else's control?
You are never "under" someone else's control because you will not and cannot be made to do or say anything that you wouldn't do or say normally. All hypnosis does is remove the apprehension that you feel when you talk about something painful.
Won't I be unconscious?

You are never actually unconscious during hypnosis, that only happens when you are rendered unconscious when injected with a drug used for that purpose, or injured, such as a from a blow to the head.

All too often people will insist that they haven't been in a state of hypnosis as they could hear everything that was going on around them and state that they could have opened their eyes and gotten up at anytime! The hypnogogic state is a 100% NATURAL, Creator-given state, a phenomenon of the brain, (which occurs in EACH of us twice a day, everyday of our lives: right before you awaken in the morning and right before you fall asleep at night, that produces this exact feeling.

Think back to the days of your childhood. Remember when you had closed your eyes at night but hadn't fallen asleep yet and in the dark one of your parents entered the room to tuck you in and without them saying a word, you knew which parent it was even with your eyes closed? Or in the morning right before you opened your eyes, you knew someone was about to call out your name, and then they did? It's in this hypnogogic state that all of your senses are heightened, even more so than when you're awake! So you are not "unconscious" when your hypnotized, not even close.

What does hypnosis feel like … or … How can I tell if I'm hypnotized?
Many of us experience a "trance-like" state while being given a good sermon at church, listening to some good music on the radio, reading a gripping novel, or even while watching TV! Here are some personal feelings one may experience when in a hypnotic state:
  1. Physical relaxation (Body muscles feel relaxed).
  2. Fluttering of eyelids when entering and coming out of hypnosis.
  3. Mental relaxation.
  4. General feeling of drowsiness as if ready to doze.
  5. Eyelids heavy (extreme effort to raise them).
  6. Eyes smarting and/or tearing. Remove contacts; they create dryness.
  7. Eyelids locked together, unable to open.
  8. Jaw muscles relaxed.
  9. Teeth unclenched.
  10. Tongue loose and natural. When tense, the tongue goes higher.
  11. Dryness in mouth.
  12. Desire to swallow.
  13. Moisture at corners of mouth.
  14. Desire to scratch an itch, but not sure of doing it.
  15. Twitching or jerking in any part of the body.
  16. Euphoria (state of well-being).
  17. Tingling or numbness in any portion of body.
  18. Heavy feeling in any portion or entire body.
  19. Desire to laugh, smile, giggle, or cry.
  20. Lack of desire to open eyes (relaxation feels too good).
  21. Body warmth or chill.
  22. Feel personal freedom, carefree or uninhibited.
  23. Sexual/sensual stimulation or awareness.
  24. Time distortion (minutes seems like hours and vice versa).
  25. Voice sounds fading in and out.
  26. Letting go as if falling asleep.
  27. Occasional involuntary sigh.
  28. Feeling of lightness.
  29. Feeling of floating.
  30. Partial body detachment as if part of the body is not there.
I've seen those TV shows where people act like chickens… will that happen to me?
No. I do not do "show" hypnosis. And no one can make you do something that you don't want to do… especially if it's against your own inner code of ethics.
When & how do I pay for the sessions?
I do require payment in advance and as most people want to get going with their sessions as soon as possible I have found the quickest and easiest way to get the business arrangements out of the way is via a wire transfer (Western Union Money Gram). More details are available on the prices page.

Please note: Although highly effective for many conditions hypnotherapy is not intended as a substitute for routine or urgent medical evaluation, treatment or consultation. Individuals with URGENT MEDICAL PROBLEMS are requested to seek advice from their own physician, or from appropriate health care professionals. Hypnotherapy is as individual as the therapist and client, therefore outcomes and processes described and experiences related in client testimonials on this web site, in emails or in other communications from Online Hypnotherapy should not be considered general to all therapists and clients.
